Every ml of emulsion for infusion/implantation contains 10 mg of propofol.
200ml vial contains 2000 mg of propofol
400ml vial contains 4000 mg of propofol
500ml vial contains 5000 mg of propofol
Propofol/ml is a short-acting general intravenous sedative specialized for
- Induction and maintenance of general sedation in adults and young people
- Sedation for demonstrative and surgical surgeries, alone or in combination with local or provincial sedation in adults and children
- Sedation of ventilated patients
Dosage
Adults
General sedation in adults:
Acceptance of sedation:
For acceptance of sedation, propofol must be titrated (about 20 – 40 mg of propofol like clockwork) against the patient’s reaction until clinical signs show the onset of sedation.
Most adult patients under the age of 55 will likely require 1.5 to 2.5 mg of propofol/kg of body weight.
In patients above this age and in patients with ASA (American Society of Anesthesiology) grades III and IV, particularly those with impaired cardiac function, the prerequisites will generally be lower and the total portion of Propofol may be reduced to at least 1 mg. of propofol. /kg of body weight. Lower rates of Propofol administration should be used (about 2 ml (20 mg propofol) at regular intervals).
Sedation Support:
To maintain sedation, large doses of 4 to 12 mg of propofol/kg of body weight/h must be administered. A reduced support portion of approximately 4 mg propofol/kg body weight/h may be adequate during less stressful surgeries, e.g., minor intrusive medical procedures.
Propofol may be decreased further depending on the severity of the patient’s condition and the sedative strategy undertaken.
Sedation in adults during focused attention:
When used to provide sedation to ventilated patients in conditions of focused attention, it is suggested that Propofol be administered in a persistent mixture. The portion should be altered by the depth of sedation required. Generally, good sedation is achieved with organization rates in the range of 0.3 to 4.0 mg propofol/kg body weight/h. Mixture doses greater than 4.0 mg of propofol/kg of body weight/h are not suggested (see area 4.4 Special warnings and safe use).
